We begin our tour passing in front of the PALACIO PIZZURNO, headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Nation. We will continue our way until the mythical CEMENTERIO DE LA RECOLETA, where the remains of distinguished figures of the artistic, social and political history of the country remains.
Then we will be bordering PLAZA FRANCIA, designed by the French landscaper Charles Thays who as Director of «Paseos de la ciudad de Buenos Aires» from 1891 to 1920, concretized and remodeled most of the green spaces that were determinants for the conformation of the national urban image and made the streets tree-lined with 150,000 specimens of trees, in short, was the man who created the most important green spaces of Argentina -public and private-, the one without which Buenos Aires would not be Buenos Aires.
We will cross Avenida del Liberatdor and we will come across the façade of the MUSEO NACIONAL DE BELLAS ARTES, one of the most important public art institutions in Argentina, which houses an extremely diverse heritage among paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, textiles and objects.
A few steps further on, and crossing Figueroa Alcorta Avenue, we will be in front of the FACULTAD DE DERECHO. We will appreciate the imposing building of great architectural and symbolic value through which many of our presidents have passed during their academic training. A few meters from there, located in the Plaza de las Naciones Unidas, we will come across the FLORALIS GENERICA, a mobile sculpture made of stainless steel, aluminium and reinforced concrete that was presented to the city of Buenos Aires by the Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano and inaugurated on April 13, 2002. This monument consists of an electrical system that gives it the particularity of being able to automatically open and close its petals depending on the time of day.
We will continue pedaling until the PLANETARIO GALILEO GALILEI located in the park 3 of February in the district of Palermo. It was built with the purpose of promulgating the dissemination of astronomical science through didactic shows for the general public and students. In its esplanade of access it has in exhibition three metallic meteorites, that were found in Argentine territory and in the museum of the first floor it is exposed a lunar rock that brought to the Earth the mission Apollo XI and that was delivered to the Planetarium. It was a gift from former U.S. President Richard Nixon.
To 4 minutes of there is EL ROSEDAL DE PALERMO. Classic postcard of the BOSQUES DE PALERMO, with its Greek-style bridge and its more than 15,000 rosebushes that spread the smell of spring around. We will stop there for a few minutes to make a FRUIT PIC-NIC to replenish some energy and take advantage to hydrate ourselves before continuing to our next and last destination.
We’ll get on our bikes again and start a continuous route to PUERTO MADERO, get to know part of the new work «Paseo del bajo» and take advantage of the excellent 360° view of several of the city’s distinctive urban landmarks in a sort of vantage point. We will see the Casa Rosada, the Ministerio de Defensa, the Centro Cultural Kirchner (CCK) and the recycled docks, which constitute the main architectural historical heritage and port identity mark of the area. Then we will return to our place of departure.
